Ott Kangilaski (1911-1975) who published the legendary “Kunsti kukeaabits” and his nephew Jaak Kangilaski brought the popular book to 10,000 art enthusiasts across Estonia, and even more through libraries and schools. Kangilaski also worked with a similar mission in graphic arts, where he demonstrated his greatest virtuosity in the drypoint technique.
Conveying the lightness of summer and the mood of a holiday, “Creek” is direct and sincere. The river, stones, trees and bushes and a young girl walking on a stream all melt into one whole. The girl’s reflection also contributes to the charm of the composition, in a classic way, a human figure in a white dress standing out against a dark background. Eloquent details also add their part to the story, such as the high-heeled shoes hanging from the girl’s hand.
