Jaan Vahtra (1882-1947), a member of the Estonian Artists Group, was not only a Cubist-Constructivist painter but also a landscape painter who decisively divided the motif into spatial volumes. In the last years of his life, he devoted himself primarily to depicting the beautiful natural landscapes of his native Võru County, as well as Ahja and Taevaskoja.

The spring-fresh landscape of Võru County is also depicted in a monotype, the composition of which is built in four parts. The backbone of this construction is a river that branches in several directions, flooded with snowmelt. For the viewer of the print, the color-sensitive solution may be more important.

Blue-white and brown tones merge into a single early spring symphony. The ice banks are becoming more and more watery, and there is a murmur and rustling between the waterlogged sods. The forest on the horizon and the shrubbery sing the March song of buds bursting through.
