“Love doesn’t need to be calculated,
it does not repeat or multiply.
The only one in my whole life,
a rose is a rose is a rose is beautiful.”

Excerpt from Doris Kareva’s poem “Song of Heaven”

Originally combining pop art and metaphysical art in the camp style, Laurentsius aka Lauri Sillak (b. 1969) is a unique artist on an international scale. The way he deals with existential themes – life and transience – like the touch of a saint, there are many different stylistic and meaningful layers, in which the idea of a relic is not the last.

At first glance, the portrait of a powerful rose, which claims to be a monochrome solution, is nevertheless a brilliant demonstration of the nuances of yellowish-brown tones, with the neutral background forming a perfect and neutral backdrop. The rose, however, has the effect of a medieval golden rose, a masterpiece of goldsmiths. Of course, the neo-baroque frame in the same color scheme as the painting adds further meaning to the piece.
