Ilmar Kimm’s (1920-2011) nature views have been considered the strongest part of his portfolio and this impressionistic view of a summer park convincingly illustrates this claim. Created during a politically difficult time, the work exudes warmth and peace, as well as the lazy fluidity of a summer afternoon. The cozy mood is created by the sun’s rays seeping through the slender trees to the ground and the playful, delicate shadows of the trembling foliage.

From a rich natural idyll, Kimm draws the viewer’s gaze to the human figures walking a dog placed at the end of the footpath. The red and yellow human dot on the yellow-green landscape acts simultaneously as a colorful, mood-enhancing accent and as the source of endlessly varied stories.
