Eduard Ahas (1901-1944) was first introduced to art by Rudolf Lepik, a drawing teacher at Tartu Treffner High School. Pastel became the favorite technique of the Pallas and Nikolai Triik’s studio school graduate. The 1920s are the most interesting period in Ahas’ portfolio.

This is when he cultivated a stylized, decorative style with strong colors. This bright scene is a good example of this period and also proves the artist’s good storytelling skills. Having grown up in a family of 12 children, he did not have to look far for inspiration on the subject – perhaps it is the artist himself who is spending time with his father?
