Eduard Wiiralt (1898-1954), who returned to Estonia from Paris before World War II, arrived here at a politically turbulent time and was immediately drawn into the administrative issues of the local art scene. Despite the difficult atmosphere, however, Wiiralt continued to actively engage in his creations and did not let it distract him.

Wiiralt sought out models who had inspired him during his previous Estonian period, and so one of his most detailed works of this period was completed. Wiiralt also used the same model in “The Girl with a Striped Scarf” but from a slightly different angle. In addition to the proud and self-conscious attitude, the focus of attention in this print is on the hands, which are crafted to the last detail. Equally worthy of attention are the folds of the dress, which are drawn in extreme detail, which only a true master can capture so realistically.
