Silvia Jõgever (1924-2005) was one of the important painters who renewed the artistic landscape of Tartu and the whole of Estonia in the second half of the 1950s. Outstanding as a Fauvist colorist, Jõgever was a poetizer of simple but cheerful motifs as this painting demonstrates.
The house surrounded by lush trees is the central element in the composition of the piece, accentuated by young fruit trees that have just blossomed. Jõgever’s painting style is radical in the context of its time, the wide greenish and ochreous patches are more reminiscent of an abstract composition than an imitation of nature. A charming painting that brings to mind the hope of spring!
