\u201eMai\u00f6\u00f6\u201c on valminud eestlust r\u00f5hutava rahvusromantismi vaimus, mis v\u00f5iks vabalt kuuluda 18. v\u00f5i 19. sajandisse. J\u00f5udes l\u00e4bi traditsioonide hoidmise elavana veel Stalini aega, on teos oma ajastu kohta erakordne, kuna selles puudub igasugune viide sotsialistlikule korrale.
