Pallase l\u00f5petanud Viktor Turbil (1905-1989) oli juba enne s\u00f5da valminud k\u00e4esolevat teost inspireerinud eskiis, mille eest ta 1939. aasta talurahvaaineliste teoste kavandite v\u00f5istlusel oli I auhinna v\u00f5itnud.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tuliseid emotsioone t\u00e4is teos on edasi antud hoogsalt ja ekspressiivselt, just nii nagu see ajalooline v\u00f5itlus eesti talupoegade ja spetsiaalselt \u00fclest\u00f5usnud elanikega v\u00f5itlemiseks loodud karistussalklaste vahel v\u00f5is k\u00e4ia. Ajalooallikate kohaselt langes 700-800 talupojast kokku 10, Vene 50 soldatist kokku \u00fcks v\u00f5itleja. Selle Eestimaa jaoks v\u00e4ga olulise s\u00fcndmuse t\u00e4histamiseks 1933. aastal avatud m\u00e4lestussamba avamisele kogunes aga juba mitmeid tuhandeid inimesi.
