Toomas Vint (b. 1944) has a rare talent for elevating even the most mundane landscape into an unearthly, magnetic one. On his canvas, a tree never simply grows or a lawn simply turns green; Vint’s brushstrokes bring to life the soul of the subject, along with its deepest secrets.

Artist Eneli Luiga writes: “Toomas Vint highlights the tree growing in the middle of the painting, marking its surroundings as a yellow circle of light. The green grass on the right and left has taken a silently respectful position to give the tree-lord the necessary space. The blades of grass are painted one by one, side by side, creating a meditative state in the viewer. Does the viewer only have time to devote themselves? Vint offers a helping hand here through the format of the painting: observing nature takes place through a narrow slit, thus eliminating the noise of the world.”
