Günther Reindorff’s (1899-1974) early landscape drawings are known mainly for their motifs of the Estonian islands, the northern coast, and Nõmme. However, this drawing proves that he also ventured into Southern Estonia in the early 1920s.

The unique style of the master of landscape drawings, its natural stylization, was already evident in Reindorff at that time. The picturesque Vällamägi, located in the Haanja Uplands, is depicted in the drawing as hills that meet one another one by one, which sometimes form small worlds of their own with denser trees and sometimes more open spaces. The bright sky, emphasized with white chalk, has the effect of dotting the i in its freshness.
